Main Info
Neak Poan is a small yet unique Buddhist temple located in the Angkor Archaeological Park. Built in the 12th century by King Jayavarman VII, this temple sits on an artificial island in the middle of a large reservoir called Jayatataka Baray. It is known for its circular pond surrounded by four smaller pools, symbolizing the four elements—water, earth, fire, and wind—used for ancient healing rituals. The name “Neak Poan” means “Entwined Serpents”, referring to the two Naga (serpents) that encircle the temple.
