Description

Chong Koh is a river community recorded near Kampong Chhnang city, often described in older travel material as a floating village. Its community history belongs to the wider changes around Tonle Sap.

Research on relocation makes it important to distinguish recorded village life from an operating attraction today. This guide does not promise floating houses, a set boat route or entry into a residential area.

How to Get There

From Phnom Penh, travel north on National Road 5 to Kampong Chhnang by bus, minivan or car. The town is the road base for Roleabier and Teuk Phos, with separate river routes toward lake communities.

Continue toward Kampong Chhnang city river area for Chong Koh River Community. The land journey and any river or lake crossing are separate stages: road transport reaches a departure area, while a local boat reaches the water route. The usable landing changes with water level.

What to Eat

Freshwater fish, rice-noodle soup and rice with cooked vegetables are practical meals in town. Buy drinking water and picnic supplies before continuing to the hills or lake.

Where to Stay

Stay in Kampong Chhnang town for the market, riverfront and onward day trips. A visit to a lake village does not require sleeping on a floating house.

Best Time to Visit

Go in the cooler morning or late afternoon. Dry-season sandbars and high-water river views are different experiences, and a sandy bank is not proof of safe swimming.

Before You Go

Chong Koh is not automatically the same place as Kampong Prasat in Kampong Tralach. Do not enter homes, use a private landing or assume that community life is available for unrestricted photography.
