Kampong Preah Temple

Description

Kampong Preah Temple lies within the grounds of Wat Kampong Preah in Chhnok Tru, Baribour. The ancient brick group includes standing structures and the exposed base of another temple.

The larger surviving tower and its masonry are the focus of a visit. The ancient temples and the contemporary monastery form one destination here; Kampong Prasat market is a different name and locality.

How to Get There

From Phnom Penh, travel north on National Road 5 to Kampong Chhnang by bus, minivan or car. The town is the road base for Roleabier and Teuk Phos, with separate river routes toward lake communities.

For Kampong Preah Temple, continue toward Kampong Preah, Chhnok Tru, Baribour. A car or motorbike covers the local road section; use the established approach for the final walk and keep a return vehicle for a countryside outing.

Stay in Kampong Chhnang town for the market, riverfront and onward day trips. A visit to a lake village does not require sleeping on a floating house.

Best Time to Visit

Morning or late afternoon is more comfortable for exposed courtyards and climbs. The cooler, drier months from November to February suit longer heritage walks.

Before You Go

Use the full locality to avoid similarly named pagodas elsewhere. Stay clear of unstable walls and excavation edges, dress respectfully and do not move fragments.
