Description
Katieng is a waterfall in the Katieng and La Bang Pir landscape southwest of Banlung. Its rocky drop and forest surroundings make it a separate outing from Kachanh.
Community descriptions link the area with local guiding and nearby elephant-related visits. The waterfall and Airavata Foundation should still be arranged as distinct receiving points.
Place and locality context ↗How to Get There
Reach Banlung by intercity bus, minivan or car. From the Stung Treng side, the road connection runs east toward Banlung; waterfalls, Veun Sai and forest programmes are separate outings.
For Katieng Waterfall, continue toward Katieng / La Bang Pir, Lumphat. A car or motorbike covers the local road section; use the established approach for the final walk and keep a return vehicle for a countryside outing.
Road and transport context ↗Admission
Entry, parking and activities can be charged separately at recreation sites. A reliable current tariff is not published in the reviewed sources; keep a separate cash allowance for the visit rather than relying on an old quoted price.
Things to Do
Enjoy the waterfall from an approved viewing area and look at the surrounding vegetation. Choose a route suited to your group and current ground conditions.
Place and locality context ↗What to Eat
Rice dishes, seasonal fruit and coffee are practical choices around Banlung. Take a packed lunch and water for a forest or river outing.
Where to Stay
Banlung is the main accommodation base for the volcanic lakes and nearby waterfalls. A Veun Sai or Virachey overnight is a separate community or trekking arrangement.
Best Time to Visit
Water flow is usually stronger during and after the rainy season, while the dry season can expose more rock. Visit in daylight and avoid the stream during heavy rain or a sudden rise in water level.
Before You Go
The archive photograph was taken in March 2008; it is not a current condition report. Follow local directions around wet rock, pools and overhanging faces.
