Description
Koh Rong offers several kinds of island trip. Koh Touch has a busy village and ferry activity; Long Set/4K is a broad beach with accommodation spread along the shore; Sok San is on the western side. Prek Svay and Daem Thkov are other established communities. One booking marked “Koh Rong” does not identify which part of the island you will reach.
A relaxed visit works well when you choose one coastal base and add a boat trip or guided inland outing. The neighbouring island Koh Rong Sanloem is a separate destination, so check both island and pier names on every reservation.
Destination research reference ↗How to Get There
First reach Sihanoukville, then take a passenger ferry from the operator's Sihanoukville terminal to the named island. Choose the arrival beach that matches your accommodation: an island can have several piers, and a beach on the far side needs another boat or land transfer.
Road and transport context ↗Admission
Budget separately for the ferry, any final transfer and optional activities. Beach facilities, resort areas and private excursions have their own terms; there is no single all-inclusive island ticket.
Things to Do
Compare a village beach day at Koh Touch with a quieter stay farther along the shore.
Take licensed boat or snorkelling excursion and ask where it actually stops.
Ask a local guide about seasonal waterfalls or mangrove outings near your base.
What to Eat
Grilled fish, prawns and squid are coastal meal options. Eat at an established waterfront restaurant, or carry a picnic for a remote beach; island meals are easiest near the village or your accommodation.
Where to Stay
Sihanoukville city is the mainland base. For an island stay, choose accommodation on the same island and beach as the boat arrival, or include an onward transfer.
Best Time to Visit
The drier months, roughly November to April, are usually more practical for island travel. Wind and sea conditions still control crossings; leave flexibility around the return to the mainland.
Before You Go
Carry medication, sufficient cash and a charged phone. Use a dry bag on boat journeys. Keep off coral and avoid treating a wildlife sighting or glowing-plankton display as guaranteed.
