Description

Longvek was a royal capital in the sixteenth century and is an important heritage landscape in Kampong Tralach. Joint Cambodian and Japanese research and archaeological studies document its settlement and international connections.

Plan it as a landscape of surviving religious places and archaeological context, rather than an intact walled city. Wat Tralaeng Kaeng at Srah Chak is one locally documented place associated with that history.

How to Get There

From Phnom Penh, travel north on National Road 5 to Kampong Chhnang by bus, minivan or car. The town is the road base for Roleabier and Teuk Phos, with separate river routes toward lake communities.

For Longvek Ancient Capital, continue toward Longveaek, Kampong Tralach. A car or motorbike covers the local road section; use the established approach for the final walk and keep a return vehicle for a countryside outing.

Admission

A reliable current ticket price for this site is not published in the reviewed sources. Keep transport and any parking or guide service separate from admission; voluntary religious donations are not the same as a published ticket.

Things to Do

Visit open religious grounds respectfully and use a guide’s explanation to connect present places with the former capital. Look for the broader settlement landscape rather than expecting a restored palace complex.

The linked video includes the creator’s historical account and local exploration. Use the research references for archaeological claims.

What to Eat

Freshwater fish, rice-noodle soup and rice with cooked vegetables are practical meals in town. Buy drinking water and picnic supplies before continuing to the hills or lake.

Where to Stay

Stay in Kampong Chhnang town for the market, riverfront and onward day trips. A visit to a lake village does not require sleeping on a floating house.

Best Time to Visit

Morning or late afternoon is more comfortable for exposed courtyards and climbs. The cooler, drier months from November to February suit longer heritage walks.

Before You Go

Excavations and private plots are not open simply because they lie in the former capital. Keep to permitted paths, ask about photography in worship areas and leave archaeological material in place.
