Description
Monks Community Forest links Buddhist stewardship with community forest conservation in Oddar Meanchey. Its work offers a way to learn about the relationship between spiritual practice, local livelihoods and forest protection.
The community forest and the larger Sang Rukhavoan / Sorng Rukhavorn sanctuary are related but not interchangeable. A visit needs agreement with the relevant community rather than an assumed right to roam.
Place and historical reference ↗How to Get There
Travel by road from Siem Reap toward Samraong or Anlong Veng, then continue to the relevant district. Border-escarpment sites have separate access restrictions from the main towns.
Use Samraong–Chong Kal forest landscape as the local approach area for Monks Community Forest / Sang Rukhavoan. Continue beyond the road base on an established guided programme; forest tracks and wildlife routes are different from public town roads.
Road and transport context ↗Admission
Guided conservation and community programmes are booked as activities, with transport, guiding, meals or overnight stays priced according to the chosen programme. A sanctuary boundary is not an unrestricted public entrance. A reliable single admission price is not published in the reviewed material.
Things to Do
Learn about conservation work through an agreed discussion or guided outing. Observe wildlife quietly and treat sightings as a possibility rather than a promise.
Place and historical reference ↗What to Eat
Eat in Samraong or Anlong Veng before a remote outing. Rice, noodles and cooked vegetables are practical options; take drinking water and a packed meal beyond town.
Where to Stay
Samraong and Anlong Veng are the main town bases. Choose the one closest to your itinerary rather than treating all border sites as a short day trip from one hotel.
Best Time to Visit
November to February usually brings cooler weather for forest walks. Start wildlife outings early; wet-season rain can make tracks slower and change which routes can be used.
Before You Go
Do not join patrols, enter sensitive habitat or camp without permission. Keep to the route agreed with the community and follow its rules.
