Otres Beach

Description

Otres offers a different stretch of Sihanoukville’s mainland coast, with shorefront accommodation and places to eat in selected areas. It is not one compact village where every hotel, café and beach access is beside the same landmark. Current surroundings may differ from older backpacker-era guides.

How to Get There

Travel to Sihanoukville by road from Phnom Penh on the expressway or National Road 4. Continue by tuk-tuk or car to mainland stops; offshore islands require a boat.

For Otres Beach, continue toward Otres waterfront, south of central Sihanoukville, Preah Sihanouk. A car or motorbike covers the local road section; use the established approach for the final walk and keep a return vehicle for a countryside outing.

Admission

Budget for the boat crossing separately from accommodation, beach services and paid activities. Public beach access, private resort facilities and offshore excursions have different arrangements; a reliable combined tariff is not published here.

Things to Do

Walk a manageable section of the shoreline in the cooler hours.

Take a coastal break with a meal or drink.

Use the beach as a quiet pause between city and island travel.

What to Eat

Grilled fish, prawns and squid are coastal meal options. Eat at an established waterfront restaurant, or carry a picnic for a remote beach; island meals are easiest near the village or your accommodation.

Where to Stay

Sihanoukville city is the mainland base. For an island stay, choose accommodation on the same island and beach as the boat arrival, or include an onward transfer.

Best Time to Visit

The drier months, roughly November to April, are usually more practical for island travel. Wind and sea conditions still control crossings; leave flexibility around the return to the mainland.

Before You Go

Carry water and sun protection. Check the immediate shore before swimming and keep clear of craft. Do not rely on a photograph to confirm current water or beach conditions.
