Description

Phnom Da is the temple-bearing hill near Angkor Borei, a major landscape for understanding early Cambodian art and settlement. A brick sanctuary stands above the surrounding lowlands.

The hill, contemporary monastery and nearby Asram Maha Russei are related destinations, but each has its own setting. Seasonal water affects the journey through the surrounding plain.

How to Get There

National Road 2 connects Phnom Penh with the Takeo corridor. Use a car or intercity road transport for the main journey, then a tuk-tuk or car for individual heritage stops.

Continue toward Preaek Da, Angkor Borei for Phnom Da Temple. The road journey reaches the local approach or hill base; climbing, cave and mountain sections continue on foot. A driver for the outward journey does not replace the return transport.

What to Eat

Takeo town and roadside settlements offer freshwater fish, rice and noodle dishes. Carry water for hill climbs and eat outside the temple precinct.

Where to Stay

Takeo town suits Angkor Borei and the southern province. Phnom Penh is convenient for the northern Tonle Bati and Phnom Chisor outings; these are different itineraries.

Best Time to Visit

Start early for cooler walking and clearer planning around the return. November to February is generally more comfortable for an exposed climb; wet-season trails and cave floors can be slippery.

Before You Go

Respect local residents and worshippers. Stay on permitted paths; ask before entering buildings or photographing people. Do not climb fragile masonry or remove stone fragments.
