Description
These neighboring hills bring together Buddhist monasteries, countryside views and well-known local folklore. Phnom Pros is also called Phnom Bros and Wat Sovan Kiri Rattanak.
Phnom Srei is a separate nearby hill with a stair approach. The wider area also contains memorials associated with Khmer Rouge violence; treat these as places of remembrance.
Place and planning reference ↗How to Get There
From Phnom Penh, travel toward Skun on National Road 6 and continue on National Road 7 to Kampong Cham. Buses, minivans and cars serve the city.
Continue toward Krala commune, Kampong Siem for Phnom Pros & Phnom Srei. The road journey reaches the local approach or hill base; climbing, cave and mountain sections continue on foot. A driver for the outward journey does not replace the return transport.
Road and transport context ↗Admission
A hill walk, a religious site, parking and a guided trek may have separate charges. A reliable current tariff for this destination is not published in the reviewed sources.
Things to Do
Visit the pagoda and stupa areas, compare the two viewpoints and ask a local guide to explain the hill-building legend as folklore. Keep food secured around macaques.
Place and planning reference ↗What to Eat
The city market and Mekong riverfront are useful for rice-noodle soup, grilled fish, rice dishes and snacks. Buy water before leaving for an island or rural temple.
Where to Stay
The Mekong riverfront and central Kampong Cham offer a convenient base for city walks and surrounding temple visits. Island stays need a specific accommodation booking.
Best Time to Visit
Start early for cooler walking and clearer planning around the return. November to February is generally more comfortable for an exposed climb; wet-season trails and cave floors can be slippery.
Before You Go
Wear clothing suitable for a monastery and shoes with grip on steps. Keep away from macaques, secure food and bags, and do not feed or touch wildlife. Ask before photographing religious activity or memorial visitors.
