Description

Prey Basak is a wooded heritage site in Basak, Svay Chrum district. The temple remains and the place promoted as Prey Basak Historical Resort belong in one visit, rather than two separate attractions.

Expect a ruined archaeological setting rather than an intact temple tower. The provincial account describes brick and laterite remains on mounds, while the site inventory records the former temple group. The surviving structures are the reason to stop and look carefully.

Place and local context ↗

How to Get There

Travel east from Phnom Penh on National Road 1 by bus, minivan or car. Svay Rieng town and the Bavet border city are separate stops on this wider corridor.

For Prey Basak Temple & Historical Site, continue toward Basak, Svay Chrum. A car or motorbike covers the local road section; use the established approach for the final walk and keep a return vehicle for a countryside outing.

Admission

A reliable current ticket price for this site is not published in the reviewed sources. Keep transport and any parking or guide service separate from admission; voluntary religious donations are not the same as a published ticket.

Things to Do

Look at the surviving brickwork and the relationship between the remains and the wooded surroundings. Ask a local custodian which paths and areas are appropriate to enter.

Keep time for the heritage site itself. The word resort here does not establish hotel accommodation, a pool or a packaged recreation business.

What to Eat

The town market is a practical place for rice dishes, noodle soup and fruit. Take drinking water for an outing away from town.

Where to Stay

Svay Rieng town is a useful base for the Waiko riverfront and nearby countryside. Bavet is a separate border-city stay.

Best Time to Visit

Morning or late afternoon is more comfortable for exposed courtyards and climbs. The cooler, drier months from November to February suit longer heritage walks.

Before You Go

Do not climb the remains, move bricks or collect fragments. Dress respectfully around worship and ask before photographing people or ceremonies.
