Sunset Beach

Description

The cove appeals to visitors who want to remain by the water rather than return to a busy village each evening. Small bungalow accommodation is associated with this side of the island. Its name describes its west-facing setting; a colourful sunset still depends on cloud and weather.

How to Get There

Take a passenger ferry from Sihanoukville to Koh Rong Sanloem. Lazy Beach and Sunset Beach are on the west coast, so a mainland ferry arriving at Saracen Bay needs an onward walking or boat transfer. Travel light for the trail and arrive during daylight.

Check current room, transfer and activity rates with the relevant business. Beachfront facilities are not automatically included for non-guests.

Watch the evening light from the shore.

Ask a local dive or snorkelling operator about suitable conditions.

What to Eat

Grilled fish, prawns and squid are coastal meal options. Eat at an established waterfront restaurant, or carry a picnic for a remote beach; island meals are easiest near the village or your accommodation.

Sihanoukville city is the mainland base. For an island stay, choose accommodation on the same island and beach as the boat arrival, or include an onward transfer.

Best Time to Visit

The drier months, roughly November to April, are usually more practical for island travel. Wind and sea conditions still control crossings; leave flexibility around the return to the mainland.

Before You Go

Bring a light day bag and suitable shoes. Keep off reefs, respect other guests and arrange your departure transfer before the final morning.
