Angkor Thom

Description

Angkor Thom is a walled royal city containing gates, terraces and several major monuments, including Bayon.

Bayon is one stop within the walled city. A visit to its face towers does not cover the palace precinct, terraces or gates.

How to Get There

Use Siem Reap as your base and travel into Angkor by tuk-tuk, car or bicycle with a valid park pass. Angkor Thom is in Angkor Archaeological Park. Vehicles stop outside the monument; continue along the designated visitor path on foot.

Admission

An international Angkor pass costs US$37 for one day, US$62 for three visiting days or US$72 for seven visiting days. Buy through Angkor Enterprise online or at its official ticket office. The pass is separate from transport and guiding.

Things to Do

Plan a circuit linking the gates, Bayon and the royal terraces, with transport between distant stops.

What to Eat

Try rice noodles, amok or a rice-and-vegetable meal around the Old Market or Wat Bo. Carry water and a snack for temple or lake excursions.

Where to Stay

Stay around the Old Market, Wat Bo or central Siem Reap River for restaurants and onward transport. Angkor and the lake villages are separate excursions from the city.

Best Time to Visit

Morning or late afternoon is comfortable for outdoor city walking. Plan evening entertainment around the dated programme rather than a general daytime sightseeing schedule.

Before You Go

Dress respectfully, remain on the permitted visitor route and avoid touching carvings or climbing restricted structures. Conservation work and religious observances can change access.
