Description

Banteay Torp, also written Banteay Toap or Banteay Top, stands south of the main Banteay Chhmar complex. The community tourism organisation associates it with the same Angkorian period. Its name is commonly translated as “Fortress of the Army”.

Three surviving sandstone towers form the focus of the visit. Their damaged condition gives the site a striking silhouette, but also means that the ruins should be viewed from permitted ground-level paths. A nearby Buddhist pagoda and the agricultural landscape add context to the outing.

How to Get There

Travel north from Serei Saophoan toward Thma Puok and Banteay Chhmar by car or local road transport. The main temple and Banteay Torp are separate stops, so keep your vehicle for the day rather than expecting to walk between them.

Admission

A reliable current ticket price for this site is not published in the reviewed sources. Keep transport and any parking or guide service separate from admission; voluntary religious donations are not the same as a published ticket.

Things to Do

Walk around the surviving towers at a respectful distance and compare the sandstone construction from different sides. Photograph the towers without climbing or standing beneath unstable projections.

Ask a community guide about a pagoda visit or a countryside picnic. Such additions depend on local permission, weather and the services arranged for your group.

What to Eat

Freshwater fish, rice and noodle dishes are practical town meals. Carry water and a packed lunch for a longer temple or birdwatching outing.

Where to Stay

Serei Saophoan is the central town base. Banteay Chhmar community accommodation is better suited to an overnight focused on the temple; Poipet is a separate border-city stay.

Best Time to Visit

Morning or late afternoon is more comfortable for exposed courtyards and climbs. The cooler, drier months from November to February suit longer heritage walks.

Before You Go

The standing towers are fragile. Follow barriers and local instructions, leave fallen stones undisturbed and avoid climbing. Ask permission before entering the pagoda or photographing worshippers.
