Description

Current provincial environmental reporting uses the combined Chhaeb–Preah Roka Wildlife Sanctuary name. The two older request names are covered together here, while their individual spellings remain available as search names.

The northern plains support diverse forest and wetland habitats. A protected-area name describes a conservation landscape and does not establish a tourist gate, accommodation or permission to drive through the forest.

How to Get There

Use Preah Vihear town, Sra Aem or the Srayang/Koh Ker area as the road base appropriate to your itinerary. Intercity road transport reaches the province; the major temple groups are separate journeys.

Use Chhaeb–Preah Roka landscape, Preah Vihear sector as the local approach area for Chhaeb–Preah Roka Wildlife Sanctuary. Continue beyond the road base on an established guided programme; forest tracks and wildlife routes are different from public town roads.

Admission

Guided conservation and community programmes are booked as activities, with transport, guiding, meals or overnight stays priced according to the chosen programme. A sanctuary boundary is not an unrestricted public entrance. A reliable single admission price is not published in the reviewed material.

Things to Do

Take an authorised nature or community conservation outing suited to the current permitted route. Observe wildlife quietly and discuss forest protection with your guide; no particular animal or visitor service is promised.

What to Eat

Eat a rice or noodle meal in your overnight town and carry lunch and water for a longer temple or forest outing. Do not eat among archaeological remains.

Where to Stay

Preah Vihear town suits the central province, Sra Aem the northern temple approach, and the Srayang area the Koh Ker group. Choose the base for the actual temple you intend to visit.

Best Time to Visit

November to February usually brings cooler weather for forest walks. Start wildlife outings early; wet-season rain can make tracks slower and change which routes can be used.

Before You Go

Keep to agreed routes and observation distances, remain quiet and follow guidance near nests. Never use playback or approach a bird unless your responsible guide confirms that the activity is permitted.
