Description
The curved town beach is the most straightforward introduction to Kep’s seafront. Its appeal is the combination of a walkable shoreline and the convenience of being close to the town’s food, transport and accommodation.
Plan a beach stop as part of the day rather than assuming every coastal attraction is on this same stretch. The Crab Market, island departure pier, Angkol coast and newer Phum Thmey waterfront are separate destinations.
Visitor research reference ↗How to Get There
Reach Kep by bus, minivan or car from Phnom Penh, or by road from nearby Kampot via the Kep coastal corridor. Use a tuk-tuk or car for mainland outings.
For Kep Beach, continue toward Kep. A car or motorbike covers the local road section; use the established approach for the final walk and keep a return vehicle for a countryside outing.
Road and transport context ↗Admission
Check any parking, chair, mat or shaded seating charge before using it. Food and transport are separate purchases; ask for the total rather than assuming a rental is included with a drink.
Visitor research reference ↗Things to Do
- Walk the central shoreline and enjoy the sea breeze
- Choose a short swim only when local conditions are suitable
- Pair the beach with a separate Crab Market food stop
What to Eat
Kep Crab Market is the main food stop for crab, prawns, squid and fish. Seafood is commonly priced by weight; choose your portion before it is cooked.
Where to Stay
Stay near Kep Beach for the waterfront, or around the Crab Market and national-park slopes for restaurants and quieter gardens. Island accommodation requires a boat transfer.
Best Time to Visit
The drier months, roughly November to April, are usually more practical for island travel. Wind and sea conditions still control crossings; leave flexibility around the return to the mainland.
Before You Go
Bring drinking water, sun protection and a change of clothes. Keep children close around traffic and the waterline, and leave the shoreline clear of packaging and food waste.
