Description

Phnom Namlear is a wildlife sanctuary in eastern Mondulkiri. Bunong community initiatives around the Phnom Namlear Community Protected Area link forest care with local livelihoods and visitor infrastructure.

The sanctuary covers a wider landscape than the named Nam Lear rock. Arrange the particular forest or community outing with a local host rather than treating the rock viewpoint as an entrance to the whole protected area.

How to Get There

Take an intercity bus, minivan or car to Sen Monorom, the provincial town. The eastern road journey comes through the Snuol corridor; forest programmes start with a separate local transfer.

Use Phnom Namlear protected landscape, Pechreada district as the local approach area for Nam Lear Wildlife Sanctuary. Continue beyond the road base on an established guided programme; forest tracks and wildlife routes are different from public town roads.

Admission

Guided conservation and community programmes are booked as activities, with transport, guiding, meals or overnight stays priced according to the chosen programme. A sanctuary boundary is not an unrestricted public entrance. A reliable single admission price is not published in the reviewed material.

Things to Do

Learn about community forest stewardship and explore only the authorised route. A separate Nam Lear rock outing can be discussed with the same host when access permits.

What to Eat

Coffee, rice dishes and cooked vegetables make a useful highland meal. For a village or forest programme, choose a package that explicitly includes meals instead of relying on a trail-side shop.

Where to Stay

Stay in Sen Monorom for the main highland road network and restaurants. Jahoo and other community or conservation stays are programme bookings outside town.

Best Time to Visit

November to February usually brings cooler weather for forest walks. Start wildlife outings early; wet-season rain can make tracks slower and change which routes can be used.

Before You Go

Enter only on an approved route with a guide. Keep wildlife at a distance, leave plants and forest products in place, and respect community land and areas closed to visitors.
