Description

The National Museum presents Cambodian art and archaeology in a purpose-built museum beside the palace precinct. It is a separate visit from the royal compound.

The museum’s own visitor guidance distinguishes the galleries from the exterior and courtyard. Arrange interpretation at the entrance if available rather than assuming a particular tour language or timetable.

How to Get There

The Royal Palace and National Museum are in central Phnom Penh near the riverfront. Travel by tuk-tuk or car to the palace precinct on Sothearos Boulevard, or to the museum entrance at Streets 13 and 178. Walk between these nearby sights; vehicle parking and building entrances are separate.

Admission

The museum publishes admission of US$10 for international visitors aged 18 and over and US$5 for ages 10–17. It lists 500 riel for Cambodian visitors, with children and school groups admitted free.

Things to Do

Allow time to view the collections and ask staff about the current exhibition and guided-visit options.

What to Eat

Rice-noodle soup, rice with grilled pork, fresh fruit and iced coffee are easy choices in the capital. Eat in the neighbourhood around the visit rather than inside worship or memorial buildings.

Where to Stay

Riverside and Daun Penh put the palace, museum and central riverfront within one city stay. BKK1 and Tonle Bassac are useful alternatives for restaurants and evening outings.

Best Time to Visit

An indoor visit works during the hotter part of the day or between outdoor stops. Arrive with enough time to finish the galleries before closing rather than treating a memorial or museum as a quick photo stop.

Before You Go

The museum states that photography is not permitted inside galleries. Follow current staff guidance and check admission arrangements.
