Description

Phnom Khnong Preah, also called Phnom Preah, is a Thma Da mountain destination in the Phnom Samkos landscape. Reports describe a forest trek with stream crossings and steep sections.

This guide concerns the Thma Da route. It does not combine it with the similarly named Khnong Preah Ang itinerary at Mong Ry in Pramaoy.

How to Get There

Reach Pursat on National Road 5 by bus, minivan or car. National Road 55 is the inland mountain corridor toward Pramaoy and Veal Veng; lake villages lie on the Tonle Sap side.

Continue toward Thma Da / Phnom Samkos landscape for Phnom Khnong Preah, Thma Da. The road journey reaches the local approach or hill base; climbing, cave and mountain sections continue on foot. A driver for the outward journey does not replace the return transport.

Admission

A hill walk, a religious site, parking and a guided trek may have separate charges. A reliable current tariff for this destination is not published in the reviewed sources.

Things to Do

Choose a guided trek appropriate to the group and conditions. Discuss whether a day walk or an authorised overnight route is realistic, without assuming a serviced campsite.

What to Eat

Try locally grown citrus when in season, freshwater fish and rice dishes. Stock up with water and picnic supplies before driving into the western mountains.

Where to Stay

Pursat town is useful for the riverfront and lowland heritage sites. Pramaoy and Osoam suit western mountain itineraries; they are separate bases from the lake villages.

Best Time to Visit

Start early for cooler walking and clearer planning around the return. November to February is generally more comfortable for an exposed climb; wet-season trails and cave floors can be slippery.

Before You Go

Check current restrictions, rain and walking conditions. Pack for the agreed route and do not treat old footage of ropes or crossings as evidence that they are maintained.
