Description

Preah Nimmit is a major waterfall landscape on the Mekong near the Cambodia–Laos border. The provincial tourism directory identifies the Preah Vihear approach in Kampong Sralao Pir commune of Chhaeb.

Sopheakmit or Sopheak Mitt is also used for the shared waterfall landscape, including the Stung Treng side. This guide covers the Preah Vihear bank; the two approaches and their road journeys are not interchangeable.

How to Get There

Use Preah Vihear town, Sra Aem or the Srayang/Koh Ker area as the road base appropriate to your itinerary. Intercity road transport reaches the province; the major temple groups are separate journeys.

For Preah Nimmit Waterfall, continue toward Kampong Sralao Pir commune, Chhaeb district. A car or motorbike covers the local road section; use the established approach for the final walk and keep a return vehicle for a countryside outing.

Admission

Entry, parking and activities can be charged separately at recreation sites. A reliable current tariff is not published in the reviewed sources; keep a separate cash allowance for the visit rather than relying on an old quoted price.

Things to Do

Observe the cascades from the permitted bank and choose a stable viewpoint well back from the current and edge. Ask local hosts about seasonal water levels and the river landscape.

What to Eat

Eat a rice or noodle meal in your overnight town and carry lunch and water for a longer temple or forest outing. Do not eat among archaeological remains.

Where to Stay

Preah Vihear town suits the central province, Sra Aem the northern temple approach, and the Srayang area the Koh Ker group. Choose the base for the actual temple you intend to visit.

Best Time to Visit

Water flow is usually stronger during and after the rainy season, while the dry season can expose more rock. Visit in daylight and avoid the stream during heavy rain or a sudden rise in water level.

Before You Go

Keep away from the rapids, slick rock and unstable banks. Do not swim, wade or attempt to cross the waterfall by boat. Follow current local access rules in this border river landscape.
