Sunset Rock / Kep Viewpoint

Description

The viewpoint is often described together with the Stairway to Heaven trail. It is a specific trail destination, not a guarantee that every path through the park ends at the same rock or lookout.

A view can be worthwhile before sunset, too. Choosing a daylight visit allows more time to enjoy the route and return without depending on an unfamiliar forest path in darkness. Visibility and weather decide what can be seen.

How to Get There

Reach Kep by bus, minivan or car from Phnom Penh, or by road from nearby Kampot via the Kep coastal corridor. Use a tuk-tuk or car for mainland outings.

Continue toward Kep for Sunset Rock / Kep Viewpoint. The road journey reaches the local approach or hill base; climbing, cave and mountain sections continue on foot. A driver for the outward journey does not replace the return transport.

Admission

A hill walk, a religious site, parking and a guided trek may have separate charges. A reliable current tariff for this destination is not published in the reviewed sources.

• Enjoy the coastal outlook when visibility allows
• Pause for landscape photographs from a stable position
• Combine the stop with a suitable section of the forest trail

What to Eat

Kep Crab Market is the main food stop for crab, prawns, squid and fish. Seafood is commonly priced by weight; choose your portion before it is cooked.

Where to Stay

Stay near Kep Beach for the waterfront, or around the Crab Market and national-park slopes for restaurants and quieter gardens. Island accommodation requires a boat transfer.

Best Time to Visit

Start early for cooler walking and clearer planning around the return. November to February is generally more comfortable for an exposed climb; wet-season trails and cave floors can be slippery.

Before You Go

Use footwear with grip, stay back from exposed edges and keep the return route clear. A charged light can be useful, but it is not a reason to start an unfamiliar route too late.
