Visit quietly and observe architecture and any areas currently open to visitors.

Destination and visitor context ↗

What to Eat

Try rice noodles, amok or a rice-and-vegetable meal around the Old Market or Wat Bo. Carry water and a snack for temple or lake excursions.

Where to Stay

Stay around the Old Market, Wat Bo or central Siem Reap River for restaurants and onward transport. Angkor and the lake villages are separate excursions from the city.

Best Time to Visit

Morning or late afternoon is more comfortable for exposed courtyards and climbs. The cooler, drier months from November to February suit longer heritage walks.

Before You Go

Cover shoulders and knees at religious sites, remove shoes where required inside worship buildings, and keep food and drinks away from historic structures. Leave carvings and archaeological objects untouched.
