Description

Koh Trong is the inhabited island opposite Kratie’s riverfront. Quiet village lanes, farmland and pomelo growing make it a useful outing for travellers who want to explore at a slower pace.

The sandbar beach and pomelo orchards are features of the same island visit. Exposed sand shifts with the river, while orchards remain working private farms rather than open-access public gardens.

How to Get There

Go to the local Koh Trong boat departure on Kratie's Mekong riverfront, cross to the island and continue by bicycle or on foot along its village lanes. This is a local river crossing, separate from dolphin-watching boats north of town.

Admission

River transport and any private recreation facilities are charged separately from a village walk. A reliable fixed admission tariff for this wider area is not published in the reviewed sources.

Things to Do

Take bicycle or local transport and follow a manageable village route. Ask a host to introduce an orchard grower, buy pomelos when available and obtain permission before entering a farm.

Visit an accessible sandbar only after checking local conditions. Enjoy the view back towards town without assuming that a dry-looking bank is a supervised swimming beach.

What to Eat

Try sticky rice cooked in bamboo from Thma Krae and locally grown pomelo when available. Kratie town is the practical place for a cooked meal before a river excursion.

Where to Stay

Kratie riverfront is the main base for restaurants and dolphin-area outings. Koh Trong offers a quieter island stay reached by a separate local boat.

Best Time to Visit

Go in the cooler morning or late afternoon. Dry-season sandbars and high-water river views are different experiences, and a sandy bank is not proof of safe swimming.

Before You Go

This is a lived-in river community. Ask permission before entering homes, farms or worship areas, use agreed paths and pay local hosts directly for arranged services. Wear a life jacket for boat crossings.
