Description

Guided kayaking is a documented activity on the Mekong near Kratie. Sorya Kayaking describes a trip through sand-island channels, flooded forest and the dolphin-viewing area.

This is a guided river itinerary, not a fixed self-guided trail. Water level, current and wildlife restrictions can change the route or cause a trip to be cancelled. Dolphin sightings and access through particular channels are not guaranteed.

How to Get There

Reach Kratie by bus, minivan or car from Phnom Penh. Use the town as a base for the Mekong road toward Kampi and Sambor; river islands require their own crossing.

Use Mekong upstream of as the local approach area for Mekong Flooded Forest Kayaking. Continue beyond the road base on an established guided programme; forest tracks and wildlife routes are different from public town roads.

What to Eat

Try sticky rice cooked in bamboo from Thma Krae and locally grown pomelo when available. Kratie town is the practical place for a cooked meal before a river excursion.

Where to Stay

Kratie riverfront is the main base for restaurants and dolphin-area outings. Koh Trong offers a quieter island stay reached by a separate local boat.

Best Time to Visit

November to February usually brings cooler weather for forest walks. Start wildlife outings early; wet-season rain can make tracks slower and change which routes can be used.

Before You Go

Wear the supplied life jacket and disclose swimming ability and relevant mobility needs to the guide. Protect valuables in a dry bag, avoid solo launches and do not pursue or attempt to swim with dolphins.
